What is socio-economic status?
Socio-economic status consists of both the material resources of well-being and the conditions required to acquire material resources. These material resources include income, property, and housing. The preconditions for obtaining them are education, a profession and a position in working life.
Education modifies a person's knowledge, skills and values and affects his or her professional status. Occupation and residence affect working conditions, guide behavior and affect livelihoods. The economic situation, in turn, regulates, among other things, consumption opportunities and living conditions.
Socio-economic status affects health inequalities.
Socio-economic status affects human health in many ways. These health issues include exposure to health hazards or aggravating factors traditions, values, attitudes and social networks related to socio-economic status the use and benefits of social and health services. Health also affects social status. Those with good health do better in education and the labor market, while people struggling with health problems are at greater risk of ending up in a poor social position. The problem is compounded by the fact that the health care system does not always treat people equally.
