DEDUCTIVE INQUIRY METHOD SAMPLE LESSON PLAN ON SCIENCE TOPIC.

Lesson plan 01

Topic: water pollution.                                                                                   Subject: Science

Class:      5                                                                                                      Time: 2  hours 5 minutes.

Objectives:

Students will be able to

Ø  Define pollution. (knowledge)

Ø  Identify different types of pollution. (knowledge)

Ø  Explain water pollution. (knowledge)

Ø  Predict the causes of water pollution.(skill)

Ø  Be sensitive to the need of other living things and their environment.(attitude).

Teaching resources.

  • Empty cardboard egg carton
  • Water
  • Food coloring
  • Flaxseed meal or another powdery substance
  • Paper towels
  • Tray to place under the egg carton

Teaching method.

Deductive inquiry method.

Procedure.

1.       Explain the principle, rules and concepts that required to address inquiry.       (30 minutes)

First teacher will explain the term pollution to the students and also give overview them about the different types of pollution like land pollution, noise pollution, air pollution, and water pollution. After that teacher explain the water pollution, its causes and effect on other living organisms and how can we contribute to reduce the water pollution.

2.       Plan activities to apply principle and rules and engaging students in to inquiry method.

                                                                                                                                              (1 hour )

After that teacher would explain the student that how pollution spread through water by experimentation.so the material required for this experiment is given above. First teacher bring the student to the counter where material place and then teacher start the experiment by  Fold up a few paper towels and set them on the tray with the egg carton on top.

Now Begin pouring water into one of the cups at one end of the egg carton and watch as the water flows from cup to cup. Stop pouring once each egg cup is full.

Pour about 1 teaspoon of flax meal (ground flax seeds) into one of the end cups. Watch as the water carries it from cup to cup.

Starting in a cup at the opposite end of the carton, add about 10 drops of food coloring. Give the cup with the food coloring a slight stir if you need to and watch as it slowly flows into the cups around it.

Leave your experiment out for an hour or two and you should start to notice water (and food coloring!) seeping out of the bottom of the egg carton and soaking the paper towels under the carton.

What Happened:

In this experiment, the egg carton represents how bodies of water, such as streams, lakes, rivers, and oceans, are connected to one another. By adding “pollution” (the flax meal and food coloring) into one cup, you showed how easily pollution, like trash, waste, and chemicals, is carried from the place where it is added to bodies of water that could be far away from where the pollution started!

After leaving the egg carton for a while, the water and pollution (food coloring) started to seep out through the bottom and onto the paper towels. This is an example of how pollution that goes into a body of water can travel further into the ground and pollute areas around a stream or lake as well. This is called groundwater. When groundwater becomes polluted, it can harm plants whose roots soak up the groundwater!

It is important to remember not to litter no matter where you are at, but especially when you are near water, such as at the beach or lake. Pollution, even from garbage such as food wrappers, can be harmful to plants and animals that live in water.

3.       Interpret result.                                                                        (5 minutes)

Now all the student think about the pollutant and cause s of water pollution using their observation through experimentation

4.       Communicate findings.                                                              (10 minutes)

And then all the students will be communicating their finding to the all students that what they observe. And how can we contribute to make our environment(land, air, water )clean and save others living things.

Review.                                                                                                     (10 minutes)

Teacher will recap the topic by question answer session based on these questions.

Ø  What is pollution?

Ø  Identify the pollutant in your surrounding?

Ø  how many types of pollution?

Ø  Can we reduce pollution? If yes/no  so how?

Ø  Can water pollution van transfer from one body of water to others?

Ø  Which things play a big role to pollute the water.

Ø  Does sea animals can bear these dangerous wastes?

Ø  Can you easily describe water pollution by your own experiment or model?

Evaluation.                                                                                       (10 minutes)

Teacher will fill one jar with trashes and pollutant and other will remain same. And then students need to complete this work
