discrepent lesson plan on science (sample)(topic is density).

Lesson Plan

Grade: 06                                                                                 Subject: Science
Topic: Density                                                                          Time duration: 65 minutes.

Objectives:

Students will be able to:

1.      Define density. (Knowledge)

2.      Make hypothesis about floating or sinking of objects. (Skill)

3.      Investigate about the things by which density increase and decrease.(attitude)

4.      Explore the density of different materials. (STSE)

Teaching Resources:

1.      Some grapes

2.      Eggs

3.      Coins

4.      Clear glasses

5.      Tap water

6.      Sugar

7.      Stirrer

Teaching Method:

Discrepant event based inquiry.

Procedure.                                                         (20 minutes)

Ø  Setup the discrepant event.

·         Teacher will make the 3 groups of 5 students.

·         Then teacher place two eggs, tap water and sugar soluble water for a group A.

·         Then teacher place grapes, sugar water, and tap water for group B.

·         Now teacher place coins, tap water, and sugar water for group C.

·         Now teacher put the egg in to tap water and 1 egg in sugar solution.

·         Then teacher put some grapes in tap water and some in sugar solution.

·         Similarly teacher put some coins in tap water and some in sugar solution.

Ø  Involve students to solve discrepancy.                 (15 minutes)

·         After conducting the above experiment. Teacher asked to student to repeat the same process.

·         After that teacher asked some questions which is given below.

1.      what you observed during the experiment?

2.      Is egg, coin, and grape sink in tap water?

3.      What is the reason behind the sinking of  these things.

4.      Why these material float in sugar solution?

Student need to answers these questions in  groups so each student can share their views and finding  to their group mates. After discussing in groups teacher instruct the students to share their findings to the other groups.

Ø  Resolve questions posed by the event and relate them to the body of scientific knowledge.                                                     (20 minutes)

Now teacher explain the whole topic to the students and after getting explanation student would correct their wrong hypothesis and asked questions if they need to more clarification of the topic.

Ø  Review.                                                           (10 minutes)

Teacher recall the whole topic by lecture method and teacher recall the all main postulate of the experiment.

Ø  Evaluation.

Teacher evaluate the students by given worksheet.
